Network/server "hang"
I have a Dell PE2970 server with 3GB of RAM and win2003R2 standard. since sometime ago i'm experiencing a serious problem(and now worsened to the point of no return): all the sudden, stations are unable to reliably access the server, be it smb, apps in the server, RDP etc, all network traffic appears to hang. At first i suspected network driver so i put another completely different NIC, 5 mins after boot, network hangs and server too, it's unresponsive, windows are hanged, etc and remain like that for deveral minutes. System and app log shows no errors at all, there's ~1.5GB RAM free, no cpu usage, nothing that indicates a single problem. Also, server is updated to the day, no firewall in LAN, no HW errors reported by management controller.. i'm also not using /3GB. Server is DC+exchange+apache web server+AV server+DB(progress and local sql express)+app server+small terminal server. it's been working for more than a year somewhat reliably, i suspect one of the drive/bios/windows updates broke it but i have no way to pinpoint nor backtrack such huge changes. any ideas?, i'm starting to get to my wits end troubleshooting this..., any tools i could trace or do anything?

Hello, let's start with basics, please post an unedited ipconfig /all from the server and a client. Are you aware that your setup is really risky from security point, the heart of the domain as web server with access for everyone, maybe via the internet? Security has to be lowered to grant access for domain users. A DC should NEVER be used for web services, Exchange is not recommended on it and also Terminal services should not run on it. Applications are also nothing that should be run on a DC. A DC should do only it's basic job AD/DNS/GC and maybe DHCP, that's it. All other mentioned applications, services should run on a member server only, especially a web server and Exchange are recommended for only the single role.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
